New routines – think smart

In the 45 days I stayed at the temple I got a new routines like meditation, yoga, supplements, diet , walking a lot and low-stress lifestyle, which I really need to keep going.

It’s so easy to implement new habits and routines, while living in a protected world like the temple, where everything is based on having these healthy habits. Sticking to them outside in the real world is a challenge.

Practically  it’s challenging since I’ve got a steady place to live yet here in Sydney. Therefore every day is filled with a massive amount of new impressions, new people and using a lot of the time on the process of getting settled. Keeping up the new routines will be a lot easier when I get a steady place, where I’ve my stuff around me and easy to access. Until then I just have to do the best I can.

The easiest thing to do is the supplements and the food (here in Bondi there are healthy food stores all over the place). The yoga has become the greatest challenge since I need space and peaceful surroundings, but now I’ve a mat so on dry days I can go to the roof of the hostel or the beach to practice. The meditation has been a challenge, but this morning I went for a walk in the rain and put on my theta wave music – that worked wonders – just like using it in the evening just before bed time.

When I get my “own” space (probably a shared flat or a room) – my morning routine takes about 1 hour beside breakfast and personal stuff. Yes I’ll have to get up early in general, but that is not a problem for me.  I need access to a good kitchen, refrigerator, live close to organic stores, hot water washer, not waste too much time on transportation and be able to get early to bed (quiet place). I really hope to live in walking distance to the school maybe 15-20 minutes so I’ve some walking Incorporated in my day. Why do it the hard way if you can do it the smart way ;).

I don’t know about you guys but it’s possible, but it takes effort and smart thinking. Getting as much as possible incorperated in the daily routine so it also frees time to the fun stuff 🙂

I know I’ve to do this because the benefits make a huge difference in my life and I might actually get a life free of any symptoms from my dyspraxia. Again it’s about smart thinking and long term thinking in this case long term isn’t that long since I already experiences a huge difference from before I stayed at the temple. 🙂

Later on I can add more like trigger point and starting studying in the evening beside work but first I’ve to make the foundation for my new life work. It’s like building a house. If the foundation is solid and good the house will last and will be easy to maintain 🙂

F*ck Jante

At last I’ve found a school that have English courses on my level. The last weeks I’ve used a lot of time on traveling around in Sydney and being on the internet/phone trying to find a school were I can enroll.

Most of them declined because they believed they couldn’t teach me anything – but …. – I’ve an IELTS written on 6.5 and to get into a post graduate/master study I’ll need 7.0 as a minimum. To get my teachers degree assessed I need to apply an IELTS on 7+ on writing. To get max point for visa and I need that I need 8.0.
It has been so frustrating because I need a good school to improve my  English.

Next challenge: The school I’ve found (YEAH) wants me to start at the proficiency level in Cambridge English and then take the IELTS. When I look at the advanced material I’m already getting the empty brain look and the thought of having to do severe studies on my trip though USA, Hawaii and Japan was definitely not in my program.

This morning I was ready to call the school to push for starting on advanced level but fortunately in the shower after my morning session with Dean, I remembered the advice I got from the monks at Bondi Pavillion – “you need to have much more courage” – I had to chew on that one for half an hour and then changed my plans.

I realised that I was putting myself down according to my level of written English and grammar. Therefore I’ll do what the school recommended – I enroll on proficiency level now and when I arrive on the first day we let the placement test do the talking. Even though it was not in my plans to study the next months I’ll go to the book store in the Junction to see if they have good grammar books that can explain it in a way that I can understand + I’ll see if I can buy the books for the advanced class. I’ve some long flights, transfers in airports etc. in the next months so might as well give it a go and toughen up.

The point is that I like many others are so good at putting myself down and not listening to others and having been brought up in a country where “the laws of Jante” is extreme, I need to get out of that thought pattern – So if you are doing the same please join me and  f*ck Jante and go for it. (sorry for my language)

Get happy

Life  has its ups and downs and being single means that I’ve to be my own hero therefore I’ve made a happy list. – why because when the downs are worst it’s hard to remember what is good so by having a list I can go and get ideas of what to do and shift my mood to happy. It doesn’t take a lot you know, that is why I’m sharing my list so you can get som inspiration to make your own.

Happy list

I did it – goal reached and bar raised

Holmekollen, Oslo at Color Me Rad
I actually did it in spite of obstacles 🙂 I ran my first official 5K – Color Me Rad (Oslo) last weekend and I loved it.

My time was 29 minutes and I’m proud because I started in the back a field of almost 2000 people, so I had to worm my way though the walking crowd. Then halfway we got a cup of water to drink and it was really cold so my stomach felt like it should explode but I ran. The only times I didn’t run were on the very steep hills so I’m very happy 🙂

I started running in the spring and if I can do it with challenges like dyspraxia you can do it 🙂 You just need to find the things that motivates you. For me it was the thought of being on the SUP board again on Bondi Beach with my surf trainer and learning to ride the waves without taking a bath 😉 Who know I might even get strong enough to surf a real wave.

Another thing is to find the right race to be the first one and in my opinion Color Me Rad is a really good race to start in because I didn’t just watch a lot of bags in front of me. Beside that it’s really funny to participate.

One goal reached and one thing more on my bucket list done 🙂 Now I’ve raised the bars and going to run for a serious 5K and later a 10K 🙂
